The Dress

Picture
My dress is going to be Alfred Angelo style 2086 from the "Dream in Color" collection with Victorian Lilac trim. To the left is a stock photo of the dress. When my mom and I started dress shopping, I went into the bridal salon with my heart set on a different dress, I put that dress on, and I hated it. This was the second dress I tried on, I didn't care for it on the rack, and I wasn't sure about wearing an ivory dress, but once I put it on, I fell in love. Further proof that you should never judge a dress when it is on the hanger. The dress is an A-line style with a split skirt. It has embroidered organza over satin, and the embroidery is accented with pearls and crystals. I am absolutely in love with the dress and I did not want to take it off once I had it on. The back of the dress is corsette style, so it really gives me a flattering figure.

Dress Shopping

Trying the dress sample on at the bridal shop

MY dress! Yes, I was crying in this picture. There is a big difference between trying on a sample dress and trying on YOUR dress.

My Veil

Picture
My veil is a handmade, ivory, single-tiered, and cathedral length. I love the look of a long, flowy veil so I opted to make my own. My seamstress did the final cut on the bottom to perfect match the curve of my dress. She matched my veil to my dress while I was wearing the dress. As a finishing touch I added a couple strings of pearls and crystals to cover the raw edge of the comb.

Headpiece

When I first started planning out my wedding day attire, I fell in love with the idea of an ornate comb to wear in my hair. I shopped around online for a bit, and every comb I liked was well over $100, so I decided that it was out of my budget and made pearl bobby pins. The day I had my hair trial, I had to stop in at the bridal shop to return my veil. My seamstress insisted on showing me this comb, to wear above the bun in my hair. It matches my dress perfectly, and the price was perfect for my budget! If I can, I want to wear this in my hair with my veil for the ceremony. If not, this will replace my veil at the reception.

Bridal Jewelry

Picture
I handmade my wedding jewelry. I wanted pearls, but I wanted to incorporate crystal as well to match my dress. The finished product is a matching set of a necklace, bracelet, and earrings. The bracelet has a crystal charm that is engraved with an "H," which is the first letter of my maiden name.

Hair Jewelry

I am making my wedding veil, my dress is so ornate in the back, that my veil is going to be a simple one-tier cathedral length in ivory attached to a comb, because I plan on wearing my hair in a total up-do. I also made pearl embellished bobby pins to add a little "something" to my hair.

Shoes

After much searching, I finally found a pair of purple heels that I love. They are "Avie" by Naturalizer in Plum with a two inch heel. I like them because the heel is thick enough that I shouldn't sink in the ground during our ceremony, and they are so comfortable that that they feel like sneakers. As an added plus, I will definitely be wearing these after the wedding!

The Tux

When Tom selected his tuxedo, he chose everything to compliment my gown. Tom's tuxedo ensemble is made up of an ivory notched lapel jacket, ivory vest, Victorian lilac ascot-style tie, black shirt, black pants, patent leather shoes, and pearl cuff links with gold.

The Little White Dress

Picture
I really like the concept of the "little white dress" and I decided to make my own. The dress is an ivory, knee-length halter top with an A-line silhouette. I am going to wear my "little white dress" to the rehearsal picnic with the purple sash around my waist. I'm going to wear it again during our minimoon with a purple bolero jacket that I also made.
