Our Wedding Inspiration and Colors

As far as colors and theme goes, I did not really have a vision going into the wedding planning process. Tom and I knew that we wanted to incorporate the color purple as one of our wedding colors, but that was really about it. We have sort of let our wedding develop and shape itself, incorporating bits and pieces of us whenever we can. Our wedding venue was really what set up the vision for the rest of the wedding. After talking to the Maine Department of Conservation, I was able to reserve Fort Popham State Historic Site as our ceremony venue. Fort Popham is a Civil War era fort, perfect for two history geeks, but it is also surrounded by ocean on three sides. Suddenly our theme started to take shape; classic, timeless elegance with hints of nautical. Clean lines, starfish, classic monograms, and seashells will be found throughout our decor with touches of whimsy to bring out our playful side.  For our colors, we chose a "washed out palette" of victorian lilac, celadon green, plum, and ivory with accents of silver.
