Our Wedding Cake

Picture
Tom and I met with a local baker that is literally just down the road from our reception venue. We really love her work and her prices fit perfectly within our budget. We just recently had a tasting, and her lemon cake is absolutely delicious, her buttercream is equally amazing, it's not too sweet and compliments the lemon perfectly.  I e-mailed the baker some pictures of cakes that we liked, and she worked with us to design the perfect wedding cake. Our cake is going to be very similar to the one pictured on the left, only it will be four tiers of hexagons instead of three tiers of squares, but the cake will be ivory buttercream with sugar starfish and shells. The tiers will be stacked off center, like the purple cake below, and the bottom edge of each tier will have the roping like the seashell cake below. Our wedding cake is going to be a lemon cake with almond buttercream. We are also having a grooms cake made, it will also be a lemon cake but with chocolate fudge buttercream. It will be a single hexagonal tier and decorated with shells to compliment the the wedding cake. Our baker will also decorate the cake table with brown sugar to look like sand, and our cake will be sitting on a silver cake stand.

A Change of Heart

Originally Tom and I wanted to have a cheesecake buffet, in fact, I was going to attempt to DIY all the cheesecakes. Then reality set in, where would I store ten cheesecakes? And would I realistically have time to bake all ten cheesecakes before the wedding? Would the consistency be the same after they were thawed? And how would I get the cheesecakes to the Ramada on the day of the wedding? And after all that, would I even want to see another cheesecake, let alone eat one at the wedding? Then I briefly looked into the cost of having someone else bake and deliver the cheesecakes. Locally, I came out at $6/slice. If I was willing to pay a delivery fee, I could get them from Portland at a price of $40/cheesecake. I would need like 15 cheesecakes... ouch. Maybe we'll have cheesecake at the rehearsal dinner.

In the meantime... wedding cakes are really pretty. And there are only so many times in your life you can have such an exquisite confection made just for you. Tom and I have been looking around at various wedding cakes online, and we are starting to talk to local bakers about creating the perfect wedding cake.

Original Idea- Cheesecake Buffet

Picture
Tom and I have a love for cheesecake, in fact, one of our first dates was at the Cheesecake Factory. When it came time to start thinking about what kind of wedding cake we wanted, we decided that in lieu of a traditional wedding cake, we want to have a variety of different types of cheesecake. My vision is five or so different flavors arranged at varying heights on cake stands. One of the cheesecakes will have a cake topper on it and will be used for the cake cutting ceremony.
