Ceremony Decor

These are the DIY projects that I have completed so far for the wedding ceremony. I am really crafty, so I am trying to leave my personal touch on everything. My hope is the end result will be a truly unique wedding custom to me and Tom. If you like what you see here, complete instructions for most of my projects are on my DIY blog, which is located under the DIY tab.

Monogrammed Aisle Runner

Picture
For my aisle runner, I designed a monogram on Microsoft Paint and printed it out really large. I then taped the four sheets together, and placed them underneath my aisle runner. Then I carefully traced the design with paint. I added an ivory background and framed the whole thing out in green and purple.

Monogrammed Unity Candles

Picture
The biggest challenge I found in making my unity candles was finding a set of tapers that perfectly matched my pillar candle. There are many different shades of ivory, so it was hard to find an exact match. To decorate my pillar candle, I printed off a smaller version of the monogram that I used for the aisle runner on vellum. I then glue the vellum to my candle. I covered the raw edges with purple ribbon, and added narrow green ribbon as an accent.

Flower Cones

Picture
I wanted to use something besides my aisle runner to decorate my ceremony space, but I really did not care for the look of pomanders. I found directions online to make "May Day Flower Cones" and ran with it. Each cone is made out of ivory card stock and is tied with a celadon ribbon. instead of a traditional bow, I glued a seashell over the knot to tie in my nautical theme. In the picture, I have the cone filled with white silk roses, for my wedding they will be filled with purple and green hydrangea. I made eight flower cones, which will hang from shepherd hooks along the aisle.

Pinwheels

Picture
To add a bit of fun and whimsy to my ceremony, I am having guests spin pinwheels as Tom and I make our grand exit. As of right now, I have about half of them made. I also want to make ribbon wands so that guests have their choice of item for the grand exit. I used various patterns of scrapbooking paper that match my wedding colors for the pinwheels.

Wedding Signs

Picture
I decided to incorporate a little bit of rustic design into my wedding signs. I used wood that I found in my parents basement, and painted it with acrylic paint and crackle coat. The look I was going for was I wanted my signs to look as though they were painted on boards that washed up on the beach. I think I accomplished this well.

Ring Bearer's Pillow

Picture
After searching online for a ring bearer's pillow that both utilized my wedding colors AND a nautical theme, I finally decided to make my own. My pillow is made out of an ivory polyester/cotton blend with silver sparkles, I then accented it with two purple sashes, green ribbon, and a seashell. I am really proud of this project, I think it came out really well.

Flower Girl's Basket

Picture
I had some extra fabric, ribbon, and shells left over after I made my ring bearer's pillow, so I decided to decorate a basket that I had made earlier from a kit purchased at a museum souvenir shop. Decorating the basket was actually really easy, it was just a matter of tying a bow and using a hot glue gun to attach the shell and pearls. Now I have a matching set.
